Do you know about Canada

Canada is the peaceful protector of the North Pole and its ecosystem. It’s home for 20% of world Freshwater resources, Polar Bears, Grizzlies, Orca Whales, Glaciers and Freshwater Islands.

Canadians invented IMAX, Telephone, Walkie-Talkie, Java (James Gosling is a Canadian, the Father of Java), Insulin, Sonar and a leading country in Nuclear innovations and Technology. The fruit McIntosh is the national fruit of Canada (Steve Jobs took this name for his computer).
Molson, BlackBerry, Nortel, Tim Hortons, Bombardier are some of the Canadian Icons.

Do you know Public Health Agency of Canada invented vaccine (VSV-EBOV) for Ebola and saved thousands of lives during the outbreak between 2012 – 2015?

Canada was the first country that gave Nuclear Technology to India in 1950’s when other western countries ignored the growth of India during that time.

Canada lost 65,000 service men and women in the first world war and 44,000 in second world war theater to protect the global humanity and democracy. Remember, the population of the country was less than 6 million during that time.

Canada is always the safety haven for people who are oppressed, tortured and threatened around the world. It accepted 40,000 Sikhs from India between 1983-1990 and 65,000 SriLankan Tamils during the same time frame. The recent arrival of Serbians, Bosnians, Syrians, Iraqis and Arabians are noteworthy examples for the humanitarian heart of Canadians.

It still has a warm immigration system to attract talent and give citizenship to immigrants within 8 years. The 911 system at the City of Toronto speaks 157 languages to help people regardless of their origin. The system doesn’t force you to speak English/French to get Government and Emergency help. One can easily see Chinese, Hindi, Tamil, Italian in bank ATM’s, emergency notifications and hospital sign boards.

It is the major contributor to UN peace force, NATO and G8 countries.

The country also has enormous power in Global Politics (The arrest of Huawei CFO, Asylum for Rahaf Mohammed Alqunun are some recent examples). A person who has some knowledge about Global Politics can connect the dots and understand the present political strength of Canada.
It’s a country of brave women and men. After 1904, Canada participated in all wars with USA around the globe and even in Vietnam, they served in Communication and other Medical duties.

It is still the second largest country in the world by land mass with the population of 34 million (Less than the population of California State). The current land population is 30 million and the remaining 4 - 5 million people are living abroad (Canadian Diaspora). It achieved more liberally, socially and militarily than any other country in the world.

A role model for Universal Health Care and Affordable Medicines. 98% of the population pays Government taxes sincerely every year to strengthen the economy.
It looks irrelevant in your eyes and it is the strength of Canada. We keep low profile because our actions are louder than words

Canada is one of the leading contributors to music, art, athletics, film, science, international affairs/aid and is one the richest nations on earth - to name a few. I’m not saying we are the best but irrelevant is grossly misleading.

It seems you may need a brief history lesson so let’s go - the history of Canada covers the period from the arrival of Paleo-Indians thousands of years ago to the present day. Prior to European colonization, the lands encompassing present-day Canada were inhabited for millennia by Indigenous peoples, with distinct trade networks, spiritual beliefs, and styles of social organization. Some of these older civilizations had long faded by the time of the first European arrivals and have been discovered through archaeological investigations. Feel free to read more here -> History of Canada - Wikipedia.

Canada may be 3.8 million square miles (9.9 million square kilometres) yet roughly 95% of the population lives within 4 hours (driving time) of the Canada-US border.

WES or IQAS? Which is the best for Canadian Educational evaluation?

CANADA IMMIGRANTS, BEST OPTION FOR EDUCATIONAL EVALUATION

WES or IQAS? Which is the best for Canadian Educational evaluation?

In my opinion WES is better due to following reasons:

1) If your university is listed in WES website then go ahead with WES as it is the fastest agency among all, you would finish your ECA within a month or 1.5 month

Whereas, IQAS would take around 4-5 months (it depends upon the work load, at present it is listed as 20 weeks on their website)

2) My many clients did ECA with WES as well as with IQAS also.

Honestly, we had a good expérience with WES. Clear, and fast job with their online status to Check your application.

IQAS is very slow (24 weeks) with no Way to contact them and get updated status.

How to withdraw PPF account for NRI

As we covered in our previous blog that NRI's can't make fresh investments in PPF and an NRI can withdraw PPF through below mentioned process:

x

Find the PPF withdrawal request form from your bank’s website. If you can’t find it, then just type a simple letter mentioning that you want to withdraw the entire amount from your PPF account addressed to the bank where you hold the PPF account in. Mention the following details: PPF account number, date of initial subscription, and the account number and IFSC of the bank account where you want the proceeds to go. The details should be of your NRO account.
Courier the signed PPF withdrawal request to your relatives, parents, or siblings in the city where you have the NRE / NRO account. Provide an authority letter mentioning that you are allowing the person to follow the withdrawal process on your behalf. Also send your identity/address details and statements of your NRO account and PPF account.
The person on your behalf has to go to the bank where you have the NRE/NRO account. They have to attest these documents. After attestation is done, then the person has to visit the PSU bank for PPF withdrawal. The bank will accept the documents which are attested by your bank

NRI / Canadian PR cannot make fresh deposits in India

Do you know non resident Indians (NRI's) and Canadian PR holders are not allowed to make fresh deposits in PPF accounts in India?

Yes, but it's true. RBI rules says that NRIs must convert all their resident savings and deposit accounts to non-resident accounts upon their departure from India

If you are planning to move to Canada or any other country where you are going to settle than take note regarding your money / investments.

  • As per RBI regulations NRIs before leaving for their new country of residence must convert all their resident savings and deposit accounts to non-resident accounts if they plan to settle abroad.

  • NRIs cannot make fresh deposits to their PPF accounts however, they can continue to hold their pre-existing PPF accounts, which were opened while they were resident, until maturity period, which is 15 years.  Accretions to PPF accounts are not taxable in India, however, once you become a tax resident of Canada (or country where you settled), you will have to check your local laws to find out how these incomes will be taxed in your country or not.

  • You may continue to hold your mutual funds too but can't make fresh investments without knowledge of SEBI.

How to settle in Canada after landing as new immigrant

After landing in Canada for the first time you should follow these easy tips. I can bet that you will feel that you have not migrated to a new country called CANADA

1. First of all you need a Job
If you’re planning on doing a short landing, you can try to secure a job before you land in Canada. It’s very challenging but not impossible.

Connect with your industry: there is a community for pretty much any industry you could be a part of. Just Google it out. If you're a mechanical engineer, for example, just Google "Mechanical Engineer community in Toronto". Instead of "community", you can even try "association". In this example, the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering comes up. Browse the website and search for any people you find there.

And connect with them on LinkedIn and start building a relationship with them.

In addition to above you can check the industry each province specializes in my favorites Canadian statistics site StatCan.

If you work in a regulated field like teaching, medical, engineering, accounting, you will have to undergo a bridging program to learn how Canada practices these security sensitive industries. The sooner you start is better and my suggestion is start looking for those courses before landing in Canada.

2. To get a home on rent and to buy used car, a popular site here is Kijiji. Use Kijiji for all your basic needs and you are good to go in Canada.

3. Settling down after landing

Public transport is great to get around, there are many options. The GOTRANSIT is a little expensive if you need to travel between cities.

Language: English is the first language, and if you have good communication skills it definitely helps with the job finding. French if you plan to live in Quebec or Ottawa

The culture is take first pay later. When you fill petrol, you put the petrol in first, and then go into the shop to pay. When I tried this in America, the man came charging out of the shop yelling at me You got to pay me first!”

Sports: Learn baseball and ice hockey and you can have great engaging conversations with just about anybody.

Schools & Parks: Every residential area has a school close by. There are many parks as well. There is definitely a great outside culture here as you enjoy all 4 seasons and no pollution.

Winters: Everyone is worried about cold, it’s not as bad as I thought. During winters, even when the temperature drops to -10, wear your Canada Goose jacket, tuck your bare hands in it’s warm pockets, and you are perfectly fine. If you live in India, it’s just like having a bad monsoon.

4. Cost of living per month (for a family of 3)

Head
$ per month
Remarks
Rent
1,500
For 2 bedroom 1,000 sqft. Apartment
Groceries
800

Car
300
Per month for $20K loan for 5 years
Car & Home Insurance
250

Internet and Phone
160

Life Insurance
150

Restaurant
50
Cost of meal for 2 persons per meal
Total
3,210

Overall, I’d say with $4,000 per month, you can support a family of three without excessive spending.

Hope this all will help you a lot, Welcome to Canada..........

How to migrate to Canada? Possible ways to move Canada...............

The Canadian Govt. has developed a website that will help you at every step of the application Immigrate to Canada If you follow this website, I am sure you don’t need any agent / consultant.

Canada offers multiple ways of immigration, here are all those programs:

1. Express Entry: Most popular and fastest immigration route, run by the Federal govt.. Meant for skilled people. This program manages three economic immigration programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW) - Skilled workers with foreign experience. All professionals in sales, marketing, IT, finance, legal, medicine, etc. fall under this category.
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FST) - People qualified in a skilled trade with foreign experience. Chefs, bakers, equipment operators, etc. fall under this category.
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC) - Skilled workers who have Canadian work experience.

2. Provincial Nominee: Second most popular channel. Meant for people who do not have sufficient score to clear Express Entry. Run by each individual province. Program opens on adhoc basis. If you get nominated, then you must spend 2 years in the province, before you can move to any other province.

3. Family SponsorshipExisting permanent residents can sponsor their relatives, including their spouse, partner, children, parents, grandparents, and others to immigrate

4. Quebec-selected skilled worker: Immigration program run separately by the province of Quebec. Meant for people who want to live in Quebec specifically.

5. Start-up VisaHave a start-up idea and can bring in local jobs? Canada will give you a PR, if your idea is accepted by a designated organization and implemented.

6. Self-EmployedCan contribute culturally or in athletics to Canada.

7. Atlantic Immigration Pilot: Immigrate by graduating from a school or working in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, or Newfoundland and Labrador. This program is meant to boost the economies of Atlantic provinces that usually don’t see much immigration influx.

8. Refugees: The Canadian Council for Refugees is a national non-profit umbrella organization committed to the rights and protection of refugees and other vulnerable migrants in Canada and around the world and to the settlement of refugees and immigrants in Canada. You can visit this link for more details of program.

Procedure to apply for Canadian PR

We have compiled the procedure / steps to be followed for applying Canadian PR. There is a basis question in everybody's mind that how to calculate the points for PR to Canada. We have tried to explain this process in very simple steps for easy understanding.

The total points calculated are based on your experience, education, spouse and English (IELTS).

Visit the CIC portal Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) tool: skilled immigrants (Express Entry), and if your points are above 450 then you have a fair chance of receiving your PR within 6–8 months.

The PR process goes somewhat like this:
  • Find out if you’re eligible (link given above)
  • Get your documents ready
  • Submit your profile (intent to apply) with some basic paperwork
  • You receive the ITA i.e. the Invitation to Apply
  • After some intensive paperwork, you apply for the PR.
You either receive a provincial nomination from either of the 3 you chose in your application initially or you receive an umbrella PR and you can then choose which one you wish to take.

Next step will be showing funds to sustain for you + spouse (if any) for a year. To know more details of funds required click on this link.

Now we wait for the magical email that says ‘request for passport’

After which it takes about 2 weeks to receive your passports stamped with a one time entry visa within 4 months - which is when you must land and declare yourself a landed immigrant.

Come to Canada and fall in love.

Hope this helps!

Should I quit well paying job in my native country and move to Canada

Should I quit well paying job in my native country and move to Canada, Let's have answer to thithquestion. Everything looks perfect and shiny when you view it from the home country. I will give you an example with all calculations. (Also read our previous blog related to the same topic)

Suppose you had a well paying job (around Rs 1.2 lakh) on account every month (after all the deductions) in India. You got frustrated with the traffic and pollution and decided to try Canada. After you reached Canada, you realized it is immensely beautiful in the Summer. But, it is cold, icy for around 7–8 months.

Afterwards It will take you around an year to get a decent job (paying 100k Canadian dollars per year). During that period, you have to work at gas stations, restaurants etc making around CAD 2500/month. From that you will pay 1600 for 1 bedroom apt, 300–400 for groceries, other expenses 100–300 (bus pass, travel, clothes, misc ). Altogether, it total led to 2300 on average. From this you will have only 200 cad savings. If any unwanted expenses come in between than you will have to spend the savings you bought from your home country.

It is very difficult to get a decent job in Canada as employers prefer Canadian first and if they are not available, the post will be vacant until they find one. After a year of struggle, you may got a contract job which pay 100K CAD. You will think that you are lucky enough. Here is how the financials changed after the second year.

Suppose you are earning CAD100,000 per Annum you will have following expenses

Head
Amount Required
(in CAD, Per Annum)
Rent
19,200
Tax
40,000
Gr0cery
6,000
Other Expenses
5,000
Total
70,200
Trip to your Native Country
10,000
Net Savings
19,800

The above saved amount is around CAD 20,000 is after fighting the brutal spine chilling for 8 months a year. Take note that in Canada, interest rates are very low around 0.9%. This money is all you got and there is no growth for it.

Now compare it to India, you are earning 16 Lakhs INR per Annum you will have following expenses

Head
Amount Required
(in Rs, Per Annum)
Rent
2,40,000
Tax
3,00,000
Gr0cery
1,80,000
Other Expenses
50,000
Total
7,70,000
Trip to your Native Town
60,000
Net Savings
8,50,000

Conclusion: Now if you see you will save almost same amount in Canada as you were already saving in India

  • In addition to above, you get the best food, can visit relatives at will, don’t have to adjust with extreme liberal views and identity politics.
  • India is crowded, have lots of traffic, pollution, yet you will like it.
  • In Canada, there is a lot of hype about free healthcare. It is free, but you can’t access it. Suppose your leg got fractured while slipping on ice, you need to hold the pain until you get an appointment in hospital- which would take 2–3 days if not longer.
